David Patterson
David Patterson is Senior Legal Expert, Health, at the International Development Law Organization (IDLO). He has over 20 years' experience in global health and development, with UN system, governmental, and NGO sectors. He has advised the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the World Bank, and the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, amongst others. In 1993, Mr. Patterson co-founded the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network. In 2008 Mr. Patterson joined IDLO to establish the HIV and Health Law Program, and now represents IDLO on the UN Interagency NCD Task Force. He is a Distinguished Visitor of the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University and a Member of the Global Health Law Groningen Research Centre. He is researching the application of human rights-based approaches to NCDs, with a focus on obesity, diabetes, healthy diets and physical activity.
