World Obesity Live: Obesity & Cancer
Mar 18, 2021Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), including obesity and cancer, are a significant public health concern in the Caribbean, as in many other developing countries, and are associated with a high prevalence of mortality and morbidity.
The existing evidence amplifies that NCDs are a risk factor for becoming seriously ill with COVID-19 and with people living with obesity at seven times greater odds of developing severe forms of COVID-19. Equally, the pandemic has exposed the complexity of obesity and cancer in Belize and the Caribbean region, with concerns over the delays in diagnosis and treatment of patients. This webinar is an opportunity to raise awareness and to understand how patients are affected by the current pandemic. The strategies to overcome the most common obstacles to patient care will be discussed.
