SCOPE School Mumbai
Feb 20, 2025India is facing a steadily rising rate of obesity among both adults and children, with projections of further increase in the coming years.
Recent data highlights that over 135 million people in India are affected by obesity, contributing to a significant public health burden and an increase in associated healthcare costs.
This calls for an urgent action for targeted interventions to address obesity and prevent its associated comorbidities and complications. Despite this critical need, specific training on multi-disciplinary obesity management remains limited. The SCOPE School in India aims to bridge this educational gap, equip healthcare professionals with the necessary skills and understanding to respond to the challenges in obesity management in a culturally relevant context, ensuring a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to support people living with obesity.
By the end of the School, you will:
- Be aware of the current trends in obesity in India.
- Be updated in the challenges in obesity management in India.
- Better understand the biology of weight control and pathophysiology of obesity.
- Appreciate the challenges in the diagnosis of obesity among Asians.
- Understand the potential health consequences and complications of obesity.
- Be familiar with the role of psychosocial issues as a driver of obesity and as a sequelae of obesity.
- Understand the multi-faceted approaches for personalised (patient-centred) management including the benefits of a multi-disciplinary approach.
- Be equipped to discuss medical and surgical interventions for obesity, with the understanding the latest advances in pharmacotherapy and procedural approaches.
