Sep 03, 20243 September 2024: 9:00 - 16:30 (AEDT)
We are pleased to be hosting a SCOPE School in Melbourne, Australia this year, in collaboration with the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO).
The prevalence of obesity has been steadily increasing worldwide and has emerged as a major public health concern in Australia over the past two decades. Obesity is recognised as both a disease and a significant risk factor for numerous non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer.
SCOPE School Melbourne aims to provide a platform for the dissemination of the latest insights, strategies, and interdisciplinary approaches to effectively address the multifaceted challenges presented by obesity. Join us as we convene experts and thought leaders to explore innovative approaches to obesity management.
By the end of the School, you will:
- Be aware of the health consequences of obesity.
- Be familiar with the options available to manage people living with obesity.
- Be better equipped to discuss treatment options including dietary, pharmacological, and surgical treatments for obesity in the adult population.
- Be familiar with a framework for approaching management of obesity in the adolescent populations.
- Understand the challenges associated with long-term weight maintenance and factors influencing sustained outcomes in obesity management.
- Understand the importance of addressing psychological and behavioural factors in comprehensive obesity management across age groups
Target Audience:
Primary healthcare professionals working in clinical practice, including primary care medical practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, psychologists, surgeons specialising in metabolic and bariatric surgery, researchers, public health professionals, and policymakers.
