SCOPE School China: Advancing Multidisciplinary Obesity Management
Nov 28, 2024The World Obesity Federation, in collaboration with the China Obesity Federation (COF) and The Obesity Prevention and Control Section of the Chinese Nutrition Society (OPCS-CNS), is delighted to host its SCOPE School in Beijing, China.
Obesity presents one of the most significant public health challenges of the 21st century in China and the broader Asian region. It is a major risk factor for several non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and various cancers.
In recent years, the prevalence of obesity has surged across China, driven by rapid urbanisation, lifestyle changes, and shifts in dietary habits. This event aims to educate a diverse audience - including healthcare professionals, researchers, media professionals, and individuals with lived experience - on clinical approaches to obesity care tailored to the Chinese context.
The comprehensive agenda includes discussions on the biology of obesity, pathobiology, psychological assessments, dietary interventions, pharmacotherapy, and surgical procedures, among other key topics, ensuring a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to support people living with obesity.
By the end of the School, you will:
- Understand the challenges in obesity management in China.
- Be aware of the potential complications and staging of obesity and its impact on patient health.
- Be familiar with clinical assessments, including history taking and physical activity recommendations specific to the Chinese population.
- Appreciate approaches for personalised and patient-centred obesity management, including psychological assessments and dietary interventions.
- Be equipped to address weight bias and stigma, recognising its effects on patient experience and care outcomes.
- Be better prepared to discuss medical and surgical interventions for obesity, understanding the latest advances in pharmacotherapy and procedural approaches.
