Towards Comprehensive Global Action on Obesity (WHA 2022)
Obesity is high on the agenda at the 75th World Healthy Assembly (22-28th May) as part of an WHO NCD Resolution which includes Recommendations on obesity and the presentation of WHO’s Acceleration Plan to support implementation in front-runner countries.
We have all worked towards and applaud these vital steps that have been taken by WHO and its Member States and are urging all countries to endorse these. To further support these important streams of work, we are also calling for Member States to consider a Global Action Plan/roadmap on obesity. An overarching framework will strengthen implementation and accountability and ensure no one is left behind.
To support these actions, we encourage you to reach out to your own Health Ministers and relevant Government departments, and ask them to seize the opportunity and take leadership on obesity at the World Health Assembly, including a request to consider a Global Action Plan on obesity. You can find a briefing and template letter below (Spanish and French versions to follow).
If you get in touch with your Health Ministers please do let us know by emailing membership@worldobesity.org as we can feed this back to our contacts in Geneva, and also support you with any follow up.
