The 3rd China Obesity Congress (COC) 2024 brought together over 1,200 participants at the National Congress Center in Beijing from 16 – 18 August 2024.

The event featured keynote presentations by World Obesity representatives, including Johanna Ralston, CEO, who spoke about 'The Global Obesity Pandemic: Responding to the Challenge' and Louise Baur, Past President, presented her insights on 'Obesity Prevention: From the Clinic to the Broader Community and Beyond', emphasising the need for integrated public health strategies. The congress highlighted the urgent need for global cooperation to address the escalating obesity crisis in China.

A key moment took place during the opening ceremony where a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the China Obesity Federation (COF) and World Obesity, which represents a significant step toward stronger collaboration in obesity prevention and management.

Johanna Ralston, Louise Baur, and Shubo Saiful, Head of Education at World Obesity, met and signed the MoU with key COF representatives, including Dr Zhongtao Zhang, Bariatric Surgeon and Co-Founder, Dr Linong Ji, Endocrinologist and Co-Founder, and Dr Charles Peng Zhang, Bariatric Surgeon and Co-Founder. The MoU solidifies the commitment of both organisations to work together on SCOPE initiatives aimed at improving clinical care.

Looking ahead, this partnership will continue to build momentum with the upcoming SCOPE School China, scheduled for 28 - 29 November 2024.

This educational initiative will focus on equipping healthcare professionals in China with the latest knowledge and tools to effectively address obesity in their practices. With these ongoing efforts, the collaboration between World Obesity and COF is set to make a lasting impact on improving care for patients living with obesity, paving the way for more comprehensive obesity management and prevention strategies.
