SCOPE School Melbourne held at IFSO Congress
3 September 2024
World Obesity, in collaboration with IFSO, held a SCOPE School as part of the pre-congress courses at this year’s IFSO Congress in Melbourne, Australia.
Held at the Melbourne Convention Centre on Wednesday 3 September, there were over 60 people in attendance, including regional and international speakers, and delegates from mostly Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the UAE.
The delegates came from a range of healthcare backgrounds but the majority included integrated health and physician roles. Our speakers included Past President, Prof. Louise Baur, kindly taking the role as course director and chairing the meeting throughout the day, and co-director Prof. Ricardo Cohen, President of IFSO and member of the World Obesity Clinical Care Committee.
Other speakers included Priya Sumithran, Samantha Hocking, Louise Becroft and Kylie Murphy. Our international speakers included Lee Kaplan and Philip Schauer. We would like to thank our faculty for taking the time to be a part of this SCOPE School amidst a very busy week at the congress.
The interactive style of the pre-congress course facilitated free-flowing discussions between the speakers and attendees. Topics included causes of obesity and mechanisms of weight regulation, recent advances in pharmacotherapy, obesity in adolescents, dietary interventions, diabetes, MADLS/MASLD and psychological health, as well as metabolic surgery and treatment.
We hope to offer more SCOPE Schools as part of other congresses and are looking forward to working with IFSO again in the future.
