Obesity and ... mobilising communities in Cameroon
World Obesity member, the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Service (CBCHS), organised a series of community mobilisation initiatives this 4 March.
This included activities with junior school children and a series of awareness-raising videos on subjects ranging from obesity and its relation to diabetes, fertility and more.
A community exercise activity led by women in the community was held, as well as a childhood obesity prevention initiative, with banners promoting exercise among youngsters and warning against the prevalence of related NCDs for those living with obesity.
The activities stressed the importance of prevention among children, with Mr Takwe Boniface, NCD Program Manager at CBCHS, announcing: "Today is World Obesity Day. Obesity knows no boundaries whether you are young or old. Involving children in obesity prevention is another way to tell them you care about their good health at your old age."
