News2024 in review: Obesity Workgroup, Mexican Society of Nutrition and Endocrinology (SMNE)

The Mexican Society of Nutrition and Endocrinology (SMNE) achieved a significant milestone in 2024.

SMNE's mission is to promote the comprehensive study of obesity within the Mexican Society of Nutrition and Endocrinology (SMNE) and in the Mexican health community.

Our vision is to consolidate into a successful and functional network of health professionals that promotes education and research in obesity, promoting both prevention and adequate treatment and its complications to improve the population's quality of life.

Our goals and values:

  • Education. The SMNE obesity working group will commit to an educational effort that will primarily influence members of society and the community of health professionals in general.
  • Investigation. It will promote collaboration for the generation and/or application of innovative scientific knowledge among its members and in the community of health professionals.
  • Liaison. The SMNE obesity working group will work synergistically with national or international associations that share its aims, goals, and ethical and scientific values.
  • Management: Collaborate with the board of directors of the SMNE for the management with the competent authorities of policies that contribute to public health.
  • Leadership. Develop, based on quality, a capacity for national influence to promote the study of obesity in Mexico and our country's position in North America and Latin America.
  • Ethics. Commit to promoting good clinical practices and adherence to scientifically validated conduct, always prioritizing the benefit of the user population of health services.

Upcoming events and activities for 2025

We have planned several strategies for the diffusion and implementation of our GPC in Mexico 2025; these ongoing projects aim to increase understanding of the complexity of the disease and change the obesity narrative through the necessary treatment centred on the patient and the needs of our healthcare system of multidisciplinary treatment.
