HOT TOPIC: Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
World Obesity Federation is calling for obesity prevention, management and treatment to be prioritized in UHC
With its inclusion in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and a High Level Meeting in September 2019 at the UN General Assembly, UHC is high on the political and global health agendas. In line with our view that obesity is a disease, World Obesity Federation is calling for obesity prevention, management and treatment to be prioritized in UHC, in response to the rising rates and lack of progress at global and national levels.
Learn more:
- You can read more about UHC and why it is important for obesity and World Obesity members by reading the new blog by our very own Claudia Selin Batz and Rachel Thompson here.
- Save the Date: the next members webinar will be on UHC and obesity, and take place on the 11th September at 14:00 UK time.
In order to help us take forward our work around this important topic, we need members support.
INVITATION: You are invited to join our new UHC Task Force. This will be a group of members and WOF staff who will meet monthly to steer the organizations’ work on UHC and ensure we maximize the opportunities it presents for obesity. We hope to convene the first Task Force teleconference in early September. If you are interested to join or have any questions please contact Rachel Thompson, rthompson@worldobesity.org.
ADVOCACY: Building on last year’s Obese Planet campaign, in the lead up to the High Level Meeting we will be developing a social media tool kit as well as advocacy letters for members. Stand by for more information in August.
