Prof. Volkan Yumuk

PROFESSOR VOLKAN YUMUK

In 1994 Prof. Yumuk completed a research fellowship program at University of Michigan School of Medicine and in 1997 completed the clinical endocrinology fellowship program at the University of Alabama School of Medicine.

He became a full professor of medicine in 2006 and is currently a faculty member in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes, Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty. Prof. Yumuk’s research area is obesity, with a major clinical interest in prevention and management of obesity and type 2 diabetes. He has published many papers in national and international journals, and authored chapters in books in the field of endocrinology.

Prof. Yumuk is a founding member and the current president of the Turkish Association for the Study of Obesity; he has since 2011 been a member of the executive committee of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and is currently President. Chair of the 18th European Congress on Obesity in Istanbul in 2011. He has been a SCOPE (Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education) Fellow since 2007.

He is a reviewer for Obesity, Obesity Reviews, International Journal of Obesity, Turkish Archives of Cardiology; and is a reviewer and associate editor for Obesity Facts, the European Journal of Obesity.
